Talk Time
C onversational English Practice
ENGLISH PRACTICE Talk Time is a free ministry of Covenant Presbyterian Church to help local internationals improve their English language skills. Perhaps you’ve had many years of English teaching back in your home country and are good at reading and writing English, but if you are like many of our guests, speaking and listening to American English is hard. We can help you by offering a safe place to practice your English speaking. At Talk Time, its OK to make mistakes as you practice your English. Our hosts are friendly. CULTURE & FRIENDSHIP Not only can we help you with English but we can also help you understand American culture and teach you how to make your way in our society. We are also interested in learning about you and your culture. Our prepared conversation topics are chosen to allow you to learn English and to help both guest and host learn about each other. We hope that we can earn your friendship.  OUR MEETINGS We meet at our Church campus every Tuesday night at 7:00 PM or 19:00 (except on holidays). During the first 15 minutes, we talk together as a group. Then our hosts and guest pair up at tables of 2 to 4 people where we talk about a prepared, written topic. Whenever possible, we put women with women, and men with men. Sometimes, the topics relate to an upcoming holiday or season. Other times the topics are about general interests, such as work, books, pets, and homes. Our hosts will help explain hard words, and idioms. If you want, we can also help you with the pronunciation of English words. And we try hard to speak slowly so that you can understand us. The topics always have plenty of questions to help both hosts and guests learn about each other. We usually finish at about 8:30 PM or 20:30. SPECIAL EVENTS About
four times each year, we also have special events or parties. This
includes a Chinese New Year celebration, and a Summer Barbecue. Your
family and friends are invited to these events. RIDES If you are a student, spouse, parent, worker, refugee, immigrant or visitor here in the USA we are here to serve you. If you don’t have or drive a car and you live near our campus, please call us and one of our hosts will give you a ride to and from Talk Time. WHY WE DO TALK TIME Why do we help internationals for free? We serve you because we are Christians and our Lord has told us in the Bible to love the foreigners among us, because we ourselves know what it is like to be “strangers in a strange land”. Are you not a Christian? That is OK. We welcome all beliefs and even no beliefs at all. Perhaps you are interested in learning about Christianity. Each topic gives you a chance to learn something about Christianity through a verse from the Bible. You will find Talk Time a safe place to ask questions about Jesus and our beliefs. We promise not to be “pushy”. We will not force our beliefs on you, but we will answer your questions if you have them. OTHER TALK TIMES If you do not live near our Church in Issaquah, Washington, we can help you find a Talk Time near you. OUR LOCATION You are welcome to come to Talk Time at any time. You do not have to register or sign-up. There is no obligation to continue coming. Just come when you can. Talk Time meets at the Covenant Presbyterian Church campus located at 22116 SE 51st Place Issaquah, WA 98029. Click here to get directions to our campus.
